Levenshulme Festival Irish Family Night hailed a great Success

Hundred’s of people turned out to support a special charity night in aid of the Niall Melon Township Trust on Saturday 7 November at St Mary’s Parish Centre, Levenshulme. The event held on the penultimate night of the two week Levenshulme Community Festival was packed to capacity.

The Irish themed family night proved a big success and raised a staggering £976 for the charity which builds social housing in the poverty stricken townships of South Africa. . It featured live music from ‘Shake the Barley’ and dancing displays from the ‘Keegan Kennedy School of Irish Dancing’

It was organised by Louise Keegan from Fallowfield and Anne Scanlon. They said about the event “It was a great night, everyone really enjoyed the event. It was great to see so many families coming along to support the event. We were over the moon with the amount of money raised on the night. We would like to thank all the musicians and dancers who came along to perform on the night and everyone who brought tickets for the event.”

Both of them are part of the ‘Make Manchester Proud’ group which is hoping to go over to South Africa next year on a building blitz to build social housing in the townships over there. They have to try and raise £8,000 between them to cover building materials for the project.

The event on Saturday night raised a magnificent £976 which was a great start towards meeting their targets. They plan to do a series of fundraising events between now and April to raise the full amount.
