5,000 turn out for Levenshulme Centenary Party

Cringle Fields Park hosted massive outdoor party

A crowd of over 5,000 people braved the elements to take part in the outdoor Centenary party & fireworks display in Levenshulme on Monday 2 November.

The Party marked the 100th anniversary of the area becoming a part of Manchester. Before 1909 the independent village situated halfway between Manchester and Stockport had its own council and town hall.

The free event was held in Cringle Fields Park on Monday 2 November as part of the annual Levenshulme Festival and was filmed live by Channel M TV who had sent their news team down to cover the historic occasion!

James Hennigan the co-ordinator of the community celebration said “It was a great night, we were a bit worried about the weather putting people off from attending, but we seemed to get another bumper crowd again this year. The quality of the acts was fantastic they kept the crowds entertained in the build up to the fireworks display”

One hundred dancers, musicians and singers performed live on a specially erected stage in the park.

The show which was hosted by ALL FM Radio's Vicky Richardson and featured performances from the Manchester School of Samba (as seen on ITV’s Britains got talent), the ‘Banat Egyptian dancers’ (as seen on Channel M TV) , Traditional Irish band ‘Shake the Barley’ (as seen on several posters), the ‘Keegan Kennedy School of Irish Dancing’, The Ann Finnegan Theatre School of Dance , Blues guitarist Zacc Rogers and Street Dancer ‘Courage’.

The crowd were also entertained by local DJ James Brennan from JIB sounds who kept them warmed up for the massive fireworks display which lasted over fifteen minutes.
