The launch features a host of live entertainment from the award winning contemporary Poet ‘Tony Walsh’ through to Irish music from ‘Shake the Barley’ and middle Eastern dancing from the Levenshulme based Mahabat Egyptian Dancers.

Performers at the Launch Night on Monday 26 October include:

Paul Read,
Guardian Award Winner 2006 (photography)
Chorlton based Paul Read’s photographic exhibition feature shots taken at an orphanage in India where most of the children are affected by Polio. This exhibition focuses on the extraordinary use of physical activity, to help build on the children’s severely damaged sense of social confidence.

Hannah Cooper (photography)
‘Whats in Your Basket?’
Hannah came to Levenshulme for the day and dropped by the local newly opened Tesco superstore to find out what’s in people’s baskets. She discovered that the strangers with secrets in their baskets were just people who were more than happy to have a chat.

Jennifer Hodgson (photography)
Jennifer brings to Manchester the only thing it doesn’t have, a beach, and considers our poignant longing for a seaside retreat.

Jo Kelly (sculpture/collage)
Whether tomboy or girly girl, princess or computer geek, the image is changed every time a new face looks in.

Shake the Barley (Music)
Didsbury based Irishband from the award winning ‘Young, Gifted & Green’ includes world champion Tin Whistle player – Mairead Hussey

Tommy McMahon (Music)
Solo acoustic artist, combining an autumnal blend of eastern melodies with folk stylings.

Tony Walsh (Poetry)
Award winning Contemporary Poet from Prestwich, Tony has performed all over the UK including an appearence at Glastonbury and has recently won the Poetry Slam at the Electric Picnic Music/Arts Festival in Ireland.

Mahabat Eqyptian Dancers (Dance)
Levenshulme’s very own Middle Eastern Dance troupe, a festival favourite and a group who are guaranteed to get you up shaking your bits.

Zacc Rogers (Music)
One of Manchester’s most legendary blues guitarists and m19’s favorite entertainer.

M19 Promoter James Hennigan said "Its a fantastic line up and its been a real pleasure working with all these talented artists and producing such an exciting night".

Grania Pickard the curator of the exhibition said “It’s a very exciting commission and the launch night is hoping to break new ground in the development of the Arts in Levenshulme. The council is looking to harness the creative energies and talents in the suburb and we thought that the Levenshulme Festival would be the ideal platform to launch such a show.

The launch night and subsequent performance night on Thursday 6 November will both challenge people’s perceptions and entertain the senses. It is a great line up and one which would not look out of place at the Edinburgh Festival.”

Admission to the exhibition is free but a collection donations are welcome to the Polio children’s charity upon which one of the exhibitions is centred around.
